* Tuesday, April 20, 2004 * Archaeology Trip + Fort Canning
We went on a clz trip for humans today (again, heh, yea!!) =) Basically, we met this really interesting archaeologist, (he's one of the 5/6 archaeologists in sing). He gave us a presentation first, but I was so tired I was drooping off. Then we treaked round Fort Canning and saw a couple of sites. Fort Canning was like... so beautiful... not the 1st time I'm there I'm sure, but the hot unbearable sun had given in to a gentle breeze... the sky's its usual beautiful blue decorated w/ white puffy clouds. The whole place was kinda quiet, not awkward silence but an active, alive, yet serene kinda quiet. Plus there was so much greenery... I was like, arrgggh, wish I could stay there 4ever! ok erm. not 4ever. but honestly, I could probably stand somewhere and admire the scenery for an hour. or more. Well it's hard to capture such things with words. Most likely I'm not gd enough, but honestly... somehow I feel that certain things will always be beyond words. So basically though I really wished I could go home early b4 the trip, I really really really dun regret going (not much of a choice anyway). Later we really did an archaeological dig at St Andrew's Cathedral, and found some colonial and 14th century coins, pottery, tin cans, glass n associated stuff. One thing the archaeologist said was that history is not only abt LKY and Raffles ... but also abt the normal stuff. I guess it seems kinda common sense, maybe even clique, but staring at the bits of pottery and thinking of the story behind each one, I think it really strikes me. * * * * * * * * *
