I am going to be a kid when I grow up. Being a kid makes more sense. Some say that growing up is an inevitable maturation process that is bittersweet. I say that growing up is complicating simple matters. Making a big mess out of nothing. Yes, growing up is learning new things. But it is also forgetting what you know. Forgetting matters one never had to learn. Growing up is swimming far away from the shore, exploring new waters and seeing new things. Until we lose sight of the shore, forget who we are, where we come from, but still keep on swimming. Blinded by some aim we think we will find some day. Some day. All the time swimming away from where we come from. Swimming from the truth we were born knowing. Born knowing and grow up forgetting. What saddens me most is how much kids (well some of them) ain't kids today. No thanks to the adults which influence the society the most. No thanks to the media and peer pressure, menacingly kidnapping our children, righteously locking their souls into cages. And somehow, leading them to believe that living in captivity means living in paradise. And getting away scot-free, in the so-called free and democratic society we have today. So THIS is what our ancestors worked so hard to build. Growing up makes no sense. Why get a car? (It pollutes the environment, degenerates health, wastes $$) Why get a bigger house? (You only end up spending more $$ in a more expensive neighbourhood, and a bigger house is harder to clean. Is there a dif in a smaller one?) Why bother getting good grades? (Unless you have some big ambition e.g. become the president, all one gets is a tougher, more tiring job with no returns. Oh yes, maybe you get more money to go shopping, maybe it looks more respectable to be a boring office worker rather than a road sweeper. But a road sweeper enjoys the scenery, gets exercise. The office worker may end up spending the extra $$ earned buying treadmills.) Why go shopping? (Well I am amused that I derive pleasure out of the examination of commonly-seen man-made items. After all, there are much more beautiful things out there.) Why try to look good (when you can be self-confident as a dirty scrawny kid, straight from rolling in the mud.) Why try to SEEM good in front of others? (Isn't it that sooner or later, people who matter to you most find out who you are?) The list is long. It's getting boring so I shall stop. This is a rather bleak picture. I guess it isn't as bad. Or maybe it's worse. Whatever it is, I have made up my mind. Adults make no sense. There is no use for intelligence where there is no wisdom. There is no use for knowledge where one doesn't know the truth. Hopefully, by some miracle, I'll be a kid when I grow up. Somewhere, the truth is out there, for all of us. It took billions of years and tonnes of energy during supernovas to make who we are. It took millions of years and some say divine willpower to evolve into what we are today. We must be more awesome than we think. ;) * * * * * * * * *
